As spotted by IGN, Shanks later followed up on this statement by asking fans to make themselves heard if they wish to see the “original creators/performers” return to the franchise: “I’m gonna simply say this: if you are at all interested in a Stargate show with ANY of the original creators/performers involved, now is the time to say something. Otherwise it really will be the end of that chapter forever. Let them know you are THERE.”
Since then, Shanks has asked fans to “pound” Amazon’s social media channels and sign a petition requesting that Amazon “Revive the Stargate Franchise,” which has now reached almost 42,000 signatures. According to both Variety and IGN’s reports, Amazon is still keen to produce a follow-up to the Stargate franchise in the future, but is potentially uninterested in bringing back the original cast members for the next revival attempt.
While Michael Shanks had not been listed in the cast list for the newly cancelled Stargate series, the actor has portrayed Daniel Jackson in several direct-to-video and live-action Stargate spinoffs which, paired with his tenacity for the new series, more than implies that he was set to reprise his role in Amazon’s take on the franchise.
