Whether you’re fighting bugs or bots, you need the right tools for the job. As Helldivers 2 finishes its 60-day roadmap and releases the new patch, there’s no better time to visit Super Earth’s armories and take your pick of the litter.
If you want to save the citizens of Super Earth, you need to take advantage of the tools available. These are the best weapons in Helldivers 2 currently, with a mix of Stratagems and primary and secondary weapons for a well-rounded arsenal to choose from!

You won’t catch me dropping planetside without a Quasar Cannon at the ready. It’s one of the most accessible, potent, and downright entertaining support weapons in the game, with its high-powered energy beam that can one-shot a Charger. Of course, it’s equally effective on bots as it is on bugs. If you’re a nuisance, you can even launch your teammates by firing the beam at their feet and watching as hilarity ensues.
The best thing about the Quasar Cannon, in my humble opinion, as someone who doesn’t care about accuracy ratings, is the unlimited ammunition.

While firing some fancy shoulder-mounted laser beam sounds fantastic on paper, the simple concept of launching an old-school high-speed ball of metal through the carapace of a mutant bug and tearing it to shreds from within creates genuinely memorable moments.
Helldivers 2’s Railgun suffers from a few notable problems, like its slow reload time and a severe lack of ammunition. It makes up for these downfalls by one-shotting many of the game’s most troublesome enemies, just not the Bile Titan. You can do some severe damage when overcharging the weapon, though.

I wasn’t immediately sold on the Sickle, due to its relatively short firing time and long cooldown period. But once you learn how to burst fire and time your shots, you’ll find this energy rifle is one of the most lethal primary weapons in the game.
Not only does it potentially have infinite ammo, so long as you know how to conserve energy, it’s accurate at medium-to-long range and powerful enough to put down most bugs or bots.
Like most community-favorite weapons in the game, the Sickle has received a few nerfs since launch, but that hasn’t stopped it from excelling in the field!

Here’s another one hit by recent nerfs, but it’s still a workhorse. The SG-225 Breaker is an automatic shotgun with a large box magazine capable of putting shells down range and popping bug skulls with ease. It’s less effective against bots, though still dangerous up close and in the right hands.
The greatest downfall of the Breaker is in its unlock requirements. This isn’t readily available, as you need to reach page four of the Helldivers Mobilize Warbond, spending 20 Medals to unlock the weapon.

A true Helldiver loves any gadget that goes “boom.” Now, thanks to the Democratic Detonation Warbond, along with 60 Medals, you can fire an explosive impact grenade from a handheld grenade pistol.
The GP-31 Grenade Pistol is a one-handed explosive secondary weapon with seven grenades in total, making it a hot commodity that’s best left for messy situations.
While it won’t kill a Charger in one hit, it will stagger most enemies, and wipes out small bugs or standard bots with a well-placed shot at their feet.

You can and should unlock the P-19 Redeemer relatively early in your Helldivers 2 career, as it is one of the game’s most valuable secondary weapons.
While it’s by no means the most potent weapon, let alone the strongest secondary weapon, it does serve a purpose: With its high rate of fire, you can empty the mag on your primary, swap to the Redeemer, and clear an entire horde of bugs in a pinch.
It’s an absolute life-saver that kept me alive on multiple occasions!

Because reload time is the most annoying aspect of the SG-451 Cookout Shotgun, let’s get the gripes out of the way. Yes, it’s one of the slowest weapons to reload in the game. The reload animation loads a single shell at a time, but that also means you won’t waste any rounds by tossing unused ammunition aside.
It’s not the most powerful shotgun in the game, but you can’t beat the incendiary pellets that ignite bugs and bots. The low recoil, high stagger, and crowd control mechanics make it a viable weapon for solo play!
Of course, everyone will have a favorite weapon they’ll main in Helldivers 2. But if you’re struggling to pick, hopefully the above will give you some solid suggestions for future metal friends. Now, if only we could get the game running smoothly on Steam Deck!
