Epic Explains It Didn’t Make Fortnite Porsche AI Concept Image Following Online Dogpile

Stranger still, the Unreal Engine X account later reuploaded the deleted image in a follow-up post so it could explain that the image was created by Porsche, not Epic Games.

The second paragraph of the new post states, “Note: The image on the left is a concept image provided by the Porsche team and is not reflective of the final version of Porsche’s car configurator.” (Porsche’s website has a car configurator that uses the Unreal Engine.) In case you don’t want to open an X link, the “image on the left” referred to in the post is the same as the one that the Unreal Engine account previously deleted.

That still doesn’t really explain how Riot Games’ logo ended up in the image, or how it made it through whatever quality-control checks exist before it was published to the Unreal Engine social account. It sounds like someone at Porsche, or one of its brand design vendors, used AI to make a mock-up.

That mock-up proceeded to make its way through various internal B2B channels until it eventually arrived in front of the eyeballs of thousands. Why does it feel like we’re sleepwalking into the worst version of the internet?
