With just days until Halloween, now is the time to go all in on the spooky mood of the season. When it comes to gaming, the best way to do that is by getting scared half to death with some truly frightful horror games. Luckily, PlayStation has just the thing to help with that in the form of a new Halloween sale that’s slashing prices on a number of horror classics and hidden gems that will give you chills.
The sale, which runs until November 1, is all treats, no tricks. The obvious place to start for anybody looking for some classic survival horror fun is the Resident Evil franchise, which has multiple discounted entries as part of the sale. You could grab last year’s fantastic Resident Evil 4 remake or the very first game in the franchise and have a great time either way. But that’s just the start. There are a ton of AAA must-haves and smaller indies like the unique horror puzzler Killer Frequency to grab.

The game that started Capcom’s remake trend (which the rest of the industry soon copied) is a recreation of a horror classic that surpasses the original. A blend of old-school and modern design, the RE2 remake thrills and terrifies at every corner and will make a horror fan out of you in no time.

If you are a horror aficionado who’s seen every movie there is then The Quarry might be perfect for you. From developer Supermassive Games, The Quarry is pure ‘80s B movie goodness. You (and a group of friends in multiplayer mode) get to control a handful of camp counselors trying to stay alive over the night when attacked by mysterious creatures. The best part of The Quarry is that you can turn it into the biggest gore fest ever by purposefully making bad decisions, which is always fun.

What could be more fun than running around trying to kill your friends (in a video game)? Not much. Dead by Daylight is perfect for a night in with friends (lights off, of course). The asymmetrical multiplayer game lets you live out your horror movie dreams and prove that you could actually escape the crazed killer, or be the best killer in the group.

Resident Evil 4 is likely the popular pick for the best Resident Evil game. RE4 got the remake treatment last year and the seminal action-horror title still holds up incredibly well, probably because most modern action games are inspired by it. This is the franchise at its best. It has camp, action, horror, and hotties (just look at Leon and Ada).

Not only one of the best horror games in the past decade, but also an amazing sequel to one of the best horror movies ever made. Taking place after the events of Ridley Scott’s Alien, Isolation expertly captures the helplessness that film’s titular monster instills in its victims. For the majority of Isolation, you will not have any way to fight back against the monster, only hide and hope for the best. It’s utterly horrifying in ways few games are.

For something a bit more unique, try out this amazing 2023 indie. Instead of running from monsters, you take on the role of a radio DJ fielding calls from listeners being hunted by a serial killer. In Killer Frequency, rescuing these callers turns into unique puzzles you can only solve through finding useful information in your small recording studio or calling phone numbers. It plays like a single-player version of Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes and infuses the horror elements with a dose of ‘80s camp.

In 2014, Resident Evil was a series that had leaned into action over its survival horror roots. Thankfully series creator Shinji Mikami delivered a classic take on the genre with The Evil Within. Great gunplay and a truly terrifying atmosphere make this one of the best Resident Evil games there is, even if it doesn’t bear the franchise’s name.

While the Pinocchio Soulsike isn’t strictly a horror game, the gothic vibes are still plenty spooky. Lies of P is a fantastic iteration of the Dark Souls formula that emphasizes movement and discovering your own playstyle. Come for fantastic gameplay and stay for a gripping retelling of the classic fairy tale that is better than it has any right to be.
