MindsEye, the next “AAA” game from former GTA and Red Dead producer Leslie Benzies, will be published by Hitman developers IO Interactive as the studio’s first foray into third-party publishing.
Announced in 2023, MindsEye is an upcoming “story-driven, action-adventure thriller” set in a “near future” America. The game is being directed by Leslie Benzies, who previously worked on and produced many Rockstar Games, including Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, and every Grand Theft Auto game since GTA 3. In 2016, Benzies claimed he was pushed out of Rockstar and sued parent company Take-Two for unpaid royalties. In 2018, Benzies announced his next game, Everywhere, from his new studio Build A Rocket Boy. Everywhere is a Unreal-powered MMO that lets users create their own games and experiences in it. And MindsEye is being built by the studio using Everywhere’s tools.
On October 16, Build A Rocket Boy announced that it was partnering with IO Interactive to publish MindsEye across consoles and PC. Interestingly, while it was initially planned that MindsEye would only be playable in Everywhere, it sounds like that might not be the case anymore. However, IO Interactive’s Hakan Abrak did clarify that MindsEye is still being developed using “the same technology” and the “same engine” as Everywhere.
“The publishing deal we have is on MindsEye,” Abrak told IGN. “They are still working on the Everywhere product, but that’s something that is with Build a Rocket Boy. So there will be more communication about the synergies and connections to that. But our deal and our publishing deal collaboration is on MindsEye, which is a full AAA universe in itself.”
On the official MindsEye website, the game’s platforms are listed as PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Everywhere. The game doesn’t have a release date.
