Geralt Shreds A Kraken In The Latest Witcher Animated Movie Trailer

Kraken are referenced in The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, but players never actually get to fight one in CD Projekt Red’s 2015 open-world epic. So the animated movie The Witcher: Sirens of The Deep is giving fans the next best thing: a front-row seat to Geralt going Berserk-mode on one of the giant-tentacled sea creatures.

The latest trailer for the Netflix release—streaming on February 11—gives us a full sense of what’s at stake in Sirens of The Deep. Geralt, exhausted and ornery from his latest fallout with the sorcerer Yennifer, embarks on a little side-quest with the bard Dandelion to try to prevent all-out war between land dwellers and Merpeople. Lots of grunting, grim quips, and bloody fights ensue.

I’m still not sold on the animation style, and hopefully there are more twists than meet the eye in the full movie, but any chance to watch Doug Cockle, Geralt’s voice actor from the video game trilogy, reprise his role is welcome. The actor is also set to return in some form for The Witcher 4, but that sequel, possibly still years away, will focus primarily on his mentee, Ciri.

Sirens of The Deep is set in the middle of season 1 of Netflix’s live-action Witcher series. That show wrapped season three in 2023 and has been MIA ever since. Season four, which replaced Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth, reportedly wrapped filming late last year. The show, which has arguably been getting worse with each new set of episodes, is set to eventually conclude with season five.

In the meantime, the fantasy author behind the series, Andrzej Sapkowski, just finished the first new Witcher book in over a decade which will focus on Geralt’s teenage years.
